David made his first album with his brother, Robin Batteau, for Columbia Records in 1973. The duet was called "Batteaux". They were signed by the then chief executive at Columbia, Clive Davis.
A song of David's from the record, "Tell Her She's Lovely", was re-recorded by El Chicano. El Chicano's version of the song went to #1 on the pop charts.
His songs since then have contributed the the sales of over 45 million records worldwide.
He has written for Bonnie Raitt, Madeleine Petroux, Dolly Parton, Robert Palmer, Donna Summer, Trisha Yearwood, Sergio Mendes, Wilson Phillips, New Edition, Pablo Cruise, Seals & Crofts, Mavis Staples, Chaka Khan, Art Garfunkel, Ghostface Killah, Jermaine Jackson, David Sanborn, Shawn Colvin, Sheryl Crow, Mary Black and many, many others.
Recent releases have included Grammy Award nominated Rebecca Pidgeon, Grammy Award nominated Luciana Souza, Grammy Award nominated Raul Midon, American idol finalist Melinda Doolittle, and Latin Music Award nominated Gaby Moreno.
In 2009, David was signed by Hartwig Masuch to a European publishing deal with BMG Rights Management.
In 2012, David was signed by Thomas Scherer to a worldwide publishing deal with BMG Rights Management.
David's 2013 releases will include Eurovison Song Contest winner for Sweden, Anna Bergendahl, Norway's top recording artist, Thomas Dybdahl, and Canada's multi-platinum artist, Florence K.
David has extensively co-written and performed with McElroy Guitar artist Perla Batalla since the 1990s
